10 Habits of women that annoy men

Her hair blocks the shower drain every now and then, she would always crib how you never listen to her -men just don't like when women do these things. Right?

But, there are many more, and novelist Giles Coren sheds light on the top ten habits of women that annoy men the most, reports the Daily Mail.

Never ordering a dessert, then eating mine
"Ooh no, I'm full. I couldn't possibly eat any pudding, I'm stuffed," she says. And when my treacle pudding arrives she would have one spoon after another and finish the whole thing.

Failing to grasp that she moults
Every now and then her hair would block the shower plughole for which she would say, "That's not necessarily mine!"

Never packing enough books, or even any books, for a holiday
She'll make a huge fuss about capsule wardrobes but would never pack a book. Just a couple of magazines for the plane, which she leafs through in four minutes after which she grabs the fat thriller you've been looking forward to reading for months. She would hog it for a week, then leaves it on a boat when she's finished and says: "It was rubbish anyway."

Refusing to offer an opinion when asked for one
Which is so very different from not having an opinion. So if we're thinking of going out for dinner, for example, and you say: "What do you fancy, Chinese? Italian? A nice bit of sushi?" She'll say: "I don't mind, whatever you feel like." And when you book an Italian restaurant, she would say, "You know perfectly well that I hate Italian food."

Constantly saying, "The thing that women find most attractive in a man is a sense of humour"
Which just isn't true. What women find attractive is tall, handsome, rich. That is what women find attractive. And that is all.

Giving up in the middle of every game
Chess or cribbage or tennis or croquet or absolutely anything - it happens the moment they go slightly behind and no longer look like winning.

Never being satisfied with a hotel room
When you arrive at your hotel after a long journey and flop yourself down on the bed, she'll stand in the middle of the room with her hands on her hips and say: "Well, this just won't do, it's supposed to have a view!" Then insist on seeing every single other room in the hotel, before actually deciding that the first room was fine, after all.

Thinking animals have feelings
"I feel so sorry for that puppy, it looked so sad, it really wanted us to take it home." No, it's a dog. It does not feel sadness. It feels only hunger and the need to foul the pavement outside my house. It does not feel sad, or rejected, or worthless or unwanted.

Always leaving some awful pop music station on top volume in the car when she was the last one to drive it
So that when you get in on a cold morning to go to work, and switch the radio on expecting to hear the mellifluous mutterings of the Today programme, it instead blasts into shrieking life with some frightful oik bellowing rage into a voice-distorter over the sound of a huge drum kit being kicked down a hill by donkeys.

Making a huge fuss about how important it is that women players get the same Wimbledon prize money as male players
But then, when the tournament starts, she's only interested in watching the men, because they're sexy and the tennis is exciting, and doesn't watch even a second of the ladies, because it's boring and they grunt too much.

Keep your skin healthy in monsoon.

While monsoon is the saving grace from the scorching summer sun, it also brings about concerns for the skin. Regular cleansing and toning is important during the monsoon to keep looking fresh and healthy.

Those who have dry skin can try almond paste and honey cleanser for that perfect looking skin. Make a paste of around ten almonds and add two tablespoons of honey. Once the mixture is ready, massage on face for 5 to 7 minutes and then rinse and pat dry. Those who have an oily face need a very mild cleanser to get rid of the dead cells and grime off the skin.

Using a pure oatmeal scrub to cleanse oily skin or using ripe papaya pulp as a mild exfoliant is a good idea during the monsoon. During the monsoon the air is full of a lot of airborne and waterborne microbes and hence a good anti-bacterial toner goes a long way in preventing skin infections and eruptions.

Using a anti-bacterial face wash is also a good idea.
Moisturising during the monsoon is as important as it is during the summer. The rains can bring a de-moisturising effect on dry skin and an over-hydrating effect on oily skin. Remarkably, even in the rains the skin gets dehydrated due to the constant wetting and drying. It also leads to an itchy feeling during this time of the year. Using a non water based mosituriser is good idea if chances of getting wet frequently is high. Keeping simple tips in mind can help in maintaining a good skin during the monsoon.

New ways to drape a saree

Women, wearing a saree is a cakewalk now. With ready-to-wear sarees easily available in the market, the whole nine-yard saga has become a rather quick affair.

With interesting draping techniques and quirky mix n match options, you can make a bold and stylish statement this season with your saree. Read on to know how you can be the cynosure of all eyes this festive scene...

Sexy soiree
For all those who gave up wearing the saree because it was too much of a hassle, not to mention having to deal with a blouse and petticoat as well, can breathe easy. Designer Nida Mahmood wants you to drape your saree over leggings or slim-fit denims, instead of a petticoat, and go for tees or spaghetti tops in place of a blouse. For fabrics she suggests silk, crepe and georgette, as these weigh less and make moving around much easier. More important, these fabrics have a nice fall and natural sheen. For embellishments Mahmood recommends embroidery or sequins on the saree border for Diwali. If the thought of burning a cracker while wearing a saree sends shivers down your spine, opt for one with an interesting digital print that's a rage right now and also gives a festive feel.

Go glam
For mothers who felt their young daughters had given up on this Indian must-have, designer
Anand Kabra has a suggestion - look for ready-to-wear sarees. You can zip them up and the whole hassle of draping it is taken care of. For those who own regular sarees, Kabra suggests that they be worn like skirts, gowns, dhotis or just draped the way the Grecians did. Young girls should have fun with the saree. By draping it in innovative ways, they can make a saree suit their silhouette and get over the mindset that its an old woman's attire, he explains. For colours, Kabra bets on rich reds, as it conveys the celebration mood brilliantly. So follow these styling tips and get set to dazzle in your saree.

Embellish your hands with fake nails

Artificial or acrylic nails, as they are called, have been in the beauty industry for long but it's only now that they are being accepted by all. The best thing about them is that you can shape them the way you want - in any length or colour.

And if you have always wanted to embellish your nails with piercings, but did not have the nerve to get it done, then you can try piercing your artificial nails without touching your nails.

What are acrylic nails?
These are nail enhancements that come in various forms like press-on nails, nail-tips and sculpted nails. They were developed in the early '70s as pieces of plastic that were glued on the nails. With the advent of technology, more natural-looking nail enhancements have been developed which go well with the real nail.

But while these nail extensions beautify your hands, wearing them and then taking care of them needs a lot of attention. First and foremost, you need to clean your nails and push back the cuticle. Trim your nails but don't cut them too short, in case you have a snag with the fake nails - they might tear away a part of the real ones. Put some glue on your nails and drop the acrylic nails quickly.

If the nail does not fit properly, file it or soak your fingers in the nail solution provided and take it off. Repeat the process. Once you are done with that dab on some nail oil. This has to be done atleast once a day.

Remember not to put pressure on your extensions and avoid using washing powder or other chemicals while wearing acrylic nails.

Working your make up with your finger tips

Having a tough time switching to brushes for every little stroke you make?

Well, then just dump them and use your fingers instead! In fact some leading beauticians claim you can benefit from the natural heat and oils in your skin. It is said to help melt the product for a smoother application. But of course, it does not imply you just dip every free
finger in different shades. Each finger applies a different pressure, and thus can serve different purposes. Read on to know what make-up application each finger works best for:

Ring finger
After cleaning one's face, the first layer of make-up begins with the concealer. Use the ring finger to spread the concealer. It provides a soft touch. This will ensure that the skin under your eyes, which is quite sensitive is not pulled. Afterall, even slightest pressure regularly can cause it to look stretched and ugly.

Index finger
As this finger is said to possess a little more pressure than the index finger, experts recommend you use it to spread your eye shadow. The slight pressure helps ensure that the eye shadow is spread evenly.

Middle finger
Girls, your middle finger is the strongest, so it's ideal for framing your eye, creating definition as you move it back and forth.

Little finger
This smallest finger is perfect for applying make-up to those hard-to-reach places like the corners of the eyes. It has the least strength of all, so it will also prevent you from globbing on highlighter when you're trying to be precise.

Going Glam with Manish Malhotra

Impersonation is the best form of flattery, and who better than Bollywood actors to vouch for that. Fans across the world show their admiration by aping their fave actors' looks and clothes. The trickle down effect has been so phenomenal, that Indian wear such as the saree, salwar kameez, sherwanis and lehengas are being sported with great fanfare (of course, with a contemporary twist to it). In an attempt to look like actors Kareena, Katrina, SRK, Hrithik, Ranbir and others, celebrated designer Manish Malhotra's designs are often worn by fans.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Manish has made commendable efforts in bringing Indianwear in the limelight globally. The look is so glamourous, that one doesn't need to wear a bow tie, formal suit or even a red carpet gown.

Only recently, Deepika Padukone wore Indian contemporary wear with chikankari work at the
World Economic Forum in Davos. Kareena Kapoor has always chosen to wear a saree at prestigious functions (who can forget her famous fuchsia blouse with a skin colour net saree at the Filmfare awards couple of years ago). At the Mizwan event with Shabana Azmi, Hrithik Roshan wore Manish's sherwani and teamed it with trousers and formal shoes on the ramp. Ranbir Kapoor's black bundgala and white salwars looked perfect for his lean looks. Katrina skipped the gown to wear a long kalidar kurta with a ghaghra at an awards night, now that's a new-age twist isn't it?

Says Manish, "It's a favourable change. I have showcased Indian designs at national and international ramps with an intention to boost Indian crafts and the craftsmens' karigari. Of course, Bollywood films have a profound impact on
fashion choices."

In the same note, he says that the year 2011 will see the return of the classics. Pastel shades will rule. "At the upcoming LFW, I will be showcasing contemporary Indian resort wear," he promises.

Sneak into Sneakers

Sneakers were once only for the gym, basketball players and anyone under the age of 12 — but not anymore.

The sneaker has taken on a new avatar and is a great way to make a fashion statement. Look how fashion designer Sidney has taken on life outside the gym in the right pair of sneaker.

Go classic
Classic sneakers are the kind of shoes that can be worn with anything. And by classic, we are talking about the basic, low-cut lace-up without any glitz. One simple colour goes with everything from jeans to a tailored trouser. You can dress it up with a blazer or keep it totally easy with a pair of shorts to beat the summer heat.

Skip the socks
Socks and sneakers seem like a match made in heaven. Shoving your foot into a sneaker without socks can turn things into a sweaty mess. However, visible ankle socks, or even worse, a tube sock, can turn a mature, cohesive look into a kindergarten style. Low-cut socks that are not seen is the way out.

Roll it up
Once you have mastered the art of wearing unnoticeable socks, feel free to go for a pair of cropped trousers or roll up your denim jeans. Create a hem that ends slightly above the edge of the shoe to reveal a tiny bit of ankle. It creates a tailored silhouette that focuses attention on your shoes.

All that glitters isn't gold
Perhaps the worst culprit of all is the over-designed sneaker. Avoid sneakers with colour combinations bright and awkward enough to compete with the deadliest of poison dart frogs.

Lazy style

A meeting beckons and you're in no mood to make an effort to tog up. These stylish ladies come to your rescue
Dressing up can be a chore at times. Especially when you are compelled to look your sparkling best even as you rush from one deadline to another and you don't have the luxury of a stylist to coordinate your every stylish move. Here's where you need to have some simple tricks up your sleeve. A saviour outfit in your closet, a careless accessory here, a bit of touch up there...and you are ready to take on the world.

A multitude of thin link chains that don't look as obvious as a statement piece is my go-to piece of accessory.
It's bright, but neutral enough to go with most other clothes in my wardrobe. My most important trick is to dab the inside corners of my eyes with a little silver shadow that immediately brightens tired eyes.
I just slip into a jumpsuit! It could be a classic white one, which I would embellish with beads and accessories, or even one in a nice print. They are loose and flowy, hence very comfortable and stylish at the same time. I am tall so they add to my frame and I always receive compliments when I wear them.
I just head to a parlour for a quick blow-dry or iron which immediately makes me feel smart. Then I put on heels which make me feel professional and a good watch, which gives me the confidence I need, even if I'm not feeling so great. I've recently bought a Guess watch which arms me well to face the world.

I rely on a pair of dark blue or black skinny jeans, which make me look slim and tall, and a shrug. A shrug always looks co-ordinated and gives a semi-formal look. I team it with any old tank or spaghetti and I don't really have to worry about co-ordinating.

Tips on Bridal makeup

IT'S A cliche but it's true, every girl has dreamt of being a blushing bride on her wedding day. Unfortunately, more often than not girls tend to go overboard on their wedding; whether it's the make-up or the outfit, sadly turning the dream into a garish nightmare. Loud make-up, flashy jewellery, gaudy ensembles and tasteless accessories often leave the bride resembling a vulgar and ostentatious tent, even more so when both have been colour coordinated to suit the 'theme'. If pristine innocence and beauty is the ultimate goal, then it's better to go au naturel rather than shamelessly done up. Let us not forget the groom is making a lifelong commitment to love and protect YOU, not some random girl at the altar that he can hardly recognise.
It's hard to control the excitement, the jitters and that overwhelming knot in the stomach on your D-day, and by all means enjoy that, if you're lucky it's a once in a lifetime experience. However some things, like the way one looks can be controlled so please exercise that right and take charge.

Doll up to woo the love of your life, play Barbie if you have to but stay away from playing gremlin. It's bad enough your friends can't sue you for being bridezilla, you don't want your groom to sue you for deception or give you the third degree on your honeymoon.

"Care is better than cure, the natural look is really in and thus skin care and a healthy complexion is very important."

1. Follow the "Five golden rules": Cleansing, toning, moisturising, sunscreen and weekly facepack. The face pack should be applied in a professional salon according to skin type, as normal face packs can cause dehydration, breakouts and dryness.

2. Monthly facial by a professional is important to remove dry and dead skin and keep the skin glowing. Face massage is a must, as it makes the skin plump, removing stress and stress lines.

3. Professional guidance is better than home remedies. Use tried and tested products. Drink lots of water and eat fruit, including fruit and vegetables rich in vitamin C and E.

4. Eyes: Bold eyebrows create a frame, use a brown pencil instead of black for a soft effect. White liner applied inside the eye makes small eyes look bigger. Bright shadow on the inner corner of eyelids widens out close set eyes. Use shadows like lilac and purple that are soft. Avoid coloured contact lenses.

5. Lips: Apply lots of balm to keep lips moist and plump. Juicy colours are a big hit this season, use colours like orange, citrus and peaches.

6. Face: Use a base that matches your skin tone and that blends well with your skin type. Compact is important to keep the skin non greasy. Foundation should be well blended. Lastly use blush to enhance your bone structure and get that natural flush.

7. Hair: For hair care one should regularly apply oil and conditioners. Also avoid excessive hair treatments. Stick with natural hair colour and don't make any drastic changes like cuts, perm or colour, stick to simple styling.

8. Brides-to-be should ideally opt for trial make-up sessions, so that they can see what suits them and there are no last minute blunders. The complete look should be planned ahead of time, including coordinating the make-up, hair and ensembles. Dress in outfits that are flattering and complimenting, there's no point being skinny and then adding pounds in a thirty kilo lehenga or turning glowing skin into pancake.

Choose the perfect pair of sunglasses

We share tips on how to choose the perfect pair of sunglasses .

Sunglasses aren't just fashion accessories anymore and most consumers today are aware about the dangers of sun exposure to eyes. The Ultra Violet (UV) radiation from the sun can damage not only the skin of your eyelids, but also the clear outer parts of the eye — the cornea and conjunctiva. UV exposure also contributes to the development of certain types of cataracts. Individuals can protect their eyes by simply wearing sunglasses that block out 99 to 100 per cent of UV. Such glasses protect the eye from both UVA-and the more harmful-UVB rays.

However, not all sunglasses block UV rays. According to a research conducted at
Harvard University, "Tinted glasses without UV protection cause more harm than wearing no glasses at all. It is important to look for sun shades with the clear protector which blocks harmful ultraviolet light." And though sunglasses do make for interesting style accessories, it's the quality of the glasses that should actually catch your eye. Here are some tips to help you pick out the perfect pair of sunglasses...

Look for UV protection:
Don't be deceived by colour or cost. The ability to block UV light is not dependent on the darkness of the lens or the price tag. Always choose sunglasses that are labelled as blocking 99 to 100 per cent of UV rays. Some manufacturers' labels read: 'UV absorption up to 400nm'. This is indicates 100 per cent UV absorption.

Shape matters:
Wrap-around sunglasses offer added protection. Sunglasses that wrap around the temples prevent the sun's rays from entering from the sides. Some studies have shown that enough UV rays enter around standard
sunglass frames to reduce the protective benefits of the lenses.

Price tag:
Always purchase a pair of sunglasses from a reputed optician and not from roadside vendors. Opt for a good quality pair, even if it means shelling out more bucks. At the same time, don't be misguided by price. Inspite of the high prices, check for all the above.

Check lenses for quality:
Look for a uniform tint, not darker in one area than in another. To check for imperfections in the lenses, hold the glasses at arm's length and then look through them at a straight line in the distance, such as the edge of door. Slowly move the lens across the line. If the straight edge distorts, sways, curves or moves, the lens is flawed. Also UV-absorbing contact lenses should not be used as substitutes for sunglasses.

Style for Summers

The heat is on and it's in full blast. Yes, summer is here and it's time to rev up your wardrobe in styles that will help you stay cool despite the escalating temperatures.

One of the best ways to achieve this is by using loose and flowy silhouettes, ones that don't cling to your body. Among the top favourites this season are kaftans and tunic tops.

As for the colours, light and pastel shades, rich jewel tones and summer favourites like white, cream and beige are ideal. Also, ensure that you opt for cooling fabrics like cottons, linens, georgettes, stretch jersey and chiffons.

For a dressy evening, accessorise well with matching jewellery, a stylish clutch or handbag and some sexy footwear. We promise you, that you will feel 'oh so cool' while looking sizzling hot.

Tweezer and eyebrows

Nothing makes you appear more groomed than well-plucked eyebrows.

Many women have their eyebrows tweezed or threaded professionally, but doing it at home regularly ensures that you always have the perfect eyebrows giving you that clean look.

The biggest mistake is to tweeze too much. Avoid over-plucking as it can take months for brows to grow back. The space between your brows should be equal to, or a little wider than, your eyes. Take an eyeshadow brush or pencil and hold it parallel to the side of your nose. Where the brush meets your brow is where your brow should begin. The best brows have a slight arch. To find yours, hold the brush parallel to the outside edge of the coloured part of your eye. Where the brush meets the brow is where the highest part of your brow should be.

- Invest in a good pair of tweezers with a slanted edge.

- Stand near a window with light pouring in or under a bright light with a good mirror.

- Pluck hairs in the direction they grow. Don't grab too many hairs at a time. It's a myth that brows should never be tweezed from above.

- You want both the bottoms and tops to be smooth. Stop regularly to step back and look at what you're doing. If you over-pluck, you're stuck. Unlike most hair on your body, your brows won't always grow back once they're yanked out.

- Once you're done plucking, apply aloe vera gel to calm the redness right away.

Any questions?

It's nice to spend money on footwear and flaunt your formal shoes and stilettos. But, how about wearing chappals to your college or for that matter while dining out?

Indeed, you will be surprised to know that chappals are making cool fashion statements amongst the teenagers . Hawaii chappals, rubber flip flops, or for that matter, open-toed bathroom slippers: don't be shocked if you see teenagers decked up in formals with their rubber flip- flops on.
We see collegians who are not picky about the kind of clothes they want to wear to college. But indeed they carefully decide on the colour of his rubber Hawaiis. It's no longer embarrassing to wear chappals. It is a cool thing to wear, and they are the best in monsoon and summers.

Aromatherapy and its benefits

Always believed that aromatherapy was only about oil massages and perfumed candles? Here is how you can use aromatherapy to get soft and supple skin...

Aromatherapy is basically a form of alternative medicine that uses plant components that are volatile (essential oils) and other aromatic compounds, to improve a person's mood, health or cognitive function. Commonly used in spas, aromatherapy has now found its way into our everyday lives as well.

If maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the first step towards having skin that looks good, aromatherapy would come a close second. When aromatherapy is used in skin care, what essentially happens is that the oils get absorbed into the skin and eventually into the bloodstream, thereby giving it a long-lasting effect.

Before you begin aromatherapy, it is essential to recognise your skin type, especially if you have sensitive skin. Every plant's essential oil has different effects, so it is important to understand the effect of the oil and what it is used for before you start using them. There are also chances that you might be allergic to certain essential oils, therefore, always, always choose them with care. Ideally, if you are a first-time user, it is advisable to conduct a small patch test, on the inside portion of your wrist, using a small amount of the oil before you use it elsewhere.

Benefits of Aromatherapy

- Reduces the fine lines caused by ageing

- Cures bug bites and bee stings

- Helps soothe ageing, injured or dry skin

- Cures skin diseases

Using aromatherapy for everyday skin care:

Here is how you can use aromatherapy oils every day in your moisturising lotion, cleansing cream or even in milk. Depending on your skin type, these oils can be used individually or as a combination of two or three oils added to your everyday moisturiser. The ideal ratio would be two drops of oil to every 100 ml of cleanser.

For dry skin : Ylang ylang, geranium, rose or chamomile

For chapped or cracked skin : Chamomile or benzoin

For hyper-sensitive skin : Chamomile, rose, jasmine or neroli,

For combination skin : Geranium or lavender

For normal skin : Sandalwood, lavender, neroli or rose.

If you have any good skin care tips...do post it?

Artistic Nails

There's a new craze that's creating quite a smash among fashionable ladies - acrylic nails. They come in a number of designs and colors that are tailor-made to fit every woman's taste.

Like a girl's favorite dress, these acrylic nails are ideal for special occasions although some of the more chic young women of today wear them on a regular basis. They're easy to apply and absolutely wonderful if you want to lengthen or strengthen short, brittle nails.

They also have practical uses as well, If you're one of those people who nibble on their nails when you're bored or stressed, then these acrylic nails can help you break that habit. Bite and chew on them as much as you want and you'll still hardly make a dent. They're also great if you have the kind of nails that often split and break under the slightest pressure, because acrylic nails may look light and fragile, but they are made of sturdy stuff. You only have to maintain them on a bi-weekly basis and, after that, they're no trouble at all.

For maximum results, it's best to care for your acrylic nails the way you would care for your natural nails. Avoid soaking them in water for prolonged periods of time since water can seep in between your acrylic and natural nails and cause damage and perhaps even infection. When washing dishes of tidying up the house, it's wise to wear rubber gloves for extra protection. Overall, you can go about your normal routine without worry about breaking acrylic nails.

You may wonder how acrylic nails are made. It's really a simple process. They are made by mixing a powder with a special liquid and then painted and shaped into place using the mixture. Most professional nail care experts recommend Ethyl Methacrylate or EMA. It may be a bit more expensive than its alternative, Methyl Methacrylate or MMA but it spares the wearer from harmful MMA side effects such as skin irritations and irregular nail growth. Meanwhile, EMA are renowned for their superior quality and excellent materials. Plus, they add a dash of style and safety to your nails.

Other things to consider are nail color, design and trends. A well-loved classic color combination is the French manicure, which is simply a natural nail color accompanied by white tips. Women love them because they complement anyting in their wardrobes. For the more daring customers, there is a virtual plethora of designs to choose from, ranging from stars to teddy bears, Swarovski nail art, Gothic nail art, floral nail art and much more.

For a real party look and feel to your nails, you might want to try a little sparkle, which consist of inserts that are imbedded right into the acrylic. Among the more popular choices are tiny gems and stickers that come in a large range of shapes, designs and colors. You may also wish to try nail piercing which involve a piece of jewelry.

To make your nail art last long, use the liquid nail art fixture or nail cellophane coating which helps laminate your nail and in turn protects the design.

Alternatively, there is technique called permanent nail art which is similar to nail extension. The patterns are engraved and embossed in laser cutting on the nail itself, which is then pasted on your original nail.

"Is your denim too tight for Comfort"

It is said that a pair of well-fitting jeans may be hard to find, but once found, we stick to it, and it becomes our second skin.

Heavy denims are worn throughout the year – winters, summers and even monsoons. And come what style – boot-cut, basic blue, acid washed, straight fit, anti-fits or the skinny variety – one adapts to the ever changing style.

Added to this, is the never-ending aspiration to flaunt a petite figure. People do everything, like the wiggle-waggle dance to struggle to fit into the super- tight skinny denims, despite the constant discomfort it causes. This is where the problem begins. "I can't bend, my jeans are too tight" becomes the oft-used phrase. Some claim that they "Can wear it all the time. Probably even sleep in them." The discomforting point is that we might be suffering for fashion, say experts.
'Weather' it's the right attire or not
General practitioner, Dr Meenakshi Rajput, says, "Denim is not for the Indian summer. People wear denims throughout the year – winters, summers and monsoons. And it can lead to some big problems which you realise only later." Many collegiates and even office goers prefer the same pair regularly which can cause hygiene issues, given the lack of ventilation and lead to ulcers near the hip bone. Dr Ramandeep, a consultant at Max Hospital, says, "Denims cause a lot of sweating which means accumulation of moisture, especially in this weather. This can lead to fungal infection."

Impotent factor
While women have the option to replace their jeans with skirts, dresses or shorts, the males, especially those who prefer the skinny variety should seriously rethink their choice of denims. Dr Vikram Sharma, Urologist, Max Hospital, says, "Jeans can cause infertility, as it decreases sperm count. Tight jeans makes the testicles rub against one's body and pushes it towards the body, thereby raising its temperature, which means lowering the sperm count. I advice all my patients who complain of impotence to avoid wearing jeans."

Survival of the fittest?
Just how tight is too tight? The guys at stores suggest that one should "buy a size smaller, or a tighter fit as jeans adapt to your size and stretch accordingly within a few days." This ends up squeezing the body. Further, forcefully pulling up jeans and trying to fit into it can also pose a health risk like tingling thigh syndrome etc. Dr SK Sogani, senior consultant, Neurosurgery, Apollo Hospital, says, "Tight clothing affects the body posture and can hamper blood circulation. Fabrics of hard consistency is one of the reasons."

ATP Ramani, official spokesperson for Levis Strauss and Company, claims, "We use high quality cotton and other materials. We don't use any chemicals or treatments which should harm anyone. The safety of our consumers is important to us. We have had no complaints of any health issues, as a result of wearing our jeans."

Hairstyles at home

The nomadic traveller
For those who love to experiment with their hair, this hairdo exemplifies sheer freedom!
ll Part your hair from the temple and make vertical sections two inches wide and set them aside. Lift your hair making three vertical lines on your scalp. Apply some mousse.
ll To add volume, use a hair spray and clamp the hair at the bottom.
ll Use a flat iron to straighten your hair.
Caution: Never allow the iron to stay on the ends for long.
ll To make the bouffant, back comb your hair to get the much needed volume. Now pin the bouffant with a U-pin.
llFor the side twist, remove the clamp and then divide the side section of your hair into two and roll them together.

The french wind
Feel the passionate and seductive vibes you give off when you wear your hair in this classic style.
ll After a hair wash, dry your hair leaving behind 20% of water.
ll Divide your hair from the crown to bottom into two sections. Take one section and part your hair from the head to the front of your ear.
ll Take that section and hold it in rollers with a clamp for three seconds. Don't follow the open-shut crocodile method to use rollers as it'll lead to breakage.
ll Do this for the rest of the hair to get soft curls.
ll To finish, bend forward to give the perfect bounce and shape.

The prom night
Look like a pretty princess for your first date; understated yet elegant.
ll Towel-dry your hair and then apply some mousse. Straighten your hair, but don't curve it. If you have natural waves/curls, leave the ends in its natural shape.
ll Take a small section of your hair from the side and twirl it around to make a ponytail.
ll Use U-pins to keep the hair in place.
ll Keep the front section of your hair outside the ponytail to give a fringe effect.
ll To keep the hair looking straight all night long, use some hair spray
and run a flat iron on the hair before you leave.

Cheap Jewelry can be a Nightmare

Scientists from University of Giessen claim to have found the reason why cheap jewellery cause painful rashes on women's skin.

Many women who wear a pair of alloy earrings complain of painful red swelling and blisters. Even coins and belt buckles may also cause an unpleasant allergic reaction when they rub against the skin.

The research team claim that the reason behind allergies is that they all contain nickel. Nickel binds to a particular immune-system protein normally involved in detecting harmful invaders.

In susceptible people, this results in the body recognising nickel as an infectious agent and triggering inflammation.

As the immune system goes into overdrive, it produces the classic symptoms of burning, itching, redness, swelling and blisters.

The study appears in journal Nature Immunology.

Let rains not dampen your "Leather"

It's not just your hair and skin, your leatherwear too needs attention in the rainy months. You might have the most enviable collection of leather bags, but the best of leather can turn lacklustre when it rains cats and dogs.

Contrary to popular belief, caring for leather is a breeze, and with a little bit of effort you can restore it to top-of-the-world condition. Leather aficionado and founder-president of Hidesign, Dilip Kapur shares some valuable notes on handling leather in monsoon.

" Getting your leather bag wet is not such a huge issue especially when it is a vegetable tanned leather bag. Natural oil and extracts from barks and seeds replace the original fats in the hide giving a unique look to vegetable tanned leathers with deep colours, good body and long lasting strength. The age old technique also ages your leather bag beautifully. Rain water just becomes another element and the leather reacts in a natural way, it lets the water evaporate on its own," explains Kapur.

The best way to save a rain-soaked vegetable-tanned leather bag is to empty it out and leave it in a dry but airy place for a few days. Even better, leave it before an air-conditioner as it dehumidifies the bag. Kapur warns never to leave your bag anywhere near a heater or under direct sunlight as it will dry out the natural oils in the leather, making the bag look dull. He adds, in the long run this could make the leather hard and develop cracks on the surface.

Did you know that like your skin, your leather too needs moisturising? "You should buy an appropriate cream or wax for your leather bag that contains natural oils. The oils seep into the leather and nourish it. Unfortunately, the ones available in the market only manage to gloss the surface, and not nourish the leather. After drying the bag, gently rub some cream with a soft cloth," says he.

In the rains, a light rub so much as every other day will keep your leather supple and prevent the growth of fungus. Exclaims Kapur, "If you've already started giving your bag a light rub, by the time you are done you'll notice, it looks as good as new."

Ready reckoner

- Pat your wet leather with a soft dry cloth.

- Leave it in a warm dry place to dry naturally. Never leave your bag near a heater or under direct sunlight.

- Use an appropriate leather wax after drying your bag to restore the balance of natural oils and enhance its natural shine.

- Always store your leather bag in a cloth bag to protect it from dust and moisture especially in a humid environment.

- Periodically take out your leather bag and air it.
